The God of Small Things and Shawshank Redemption

Two weeks ago, I borrowed two books from the library, "The God of Small Things" (TGST henceforth) and "Chocolat."

I had had great expectations on TGST after learning about all the hype and hullaballoo surrounding it, its winning the Man Booker, the income it raised for its author, Arundathi Roy's popularity, etc., etc., and I am really sorry to say.......it SUCKED....sucked a great deal.....

Lot of people talk about TGST's narration style, but I am confused really. The story dragged too much and was becoming very very predictable sometimes. I skipped two or three pages at times without any problem on understanding the story.

Okay, now let us forget that shit and come to today's second topic. "Shawshank Redemption."

I knew that was the number one ranking movie in IMDB, but didnt mind to see it until this week, and I tell you.....I had one of the sweetest experiences in my whole life watching its climax. Anyone who had worked in nightshifts for a long time, say for one year, would have certainly compared nightshift life, at some point in that period, to prison life. I have been working in nightshifts for almost the past one year now and (sobbing) am feeling like a real zombie.

I dont know how Draculas work at night and still manage to find women daily to dip its beak. Of course I am not good in charming girls, but not utterly bad though, but see, I havnt even spoken to a good chick in the past one year. This is just one of those hundreds tortures of nightshifts mind you, there is a lot in the bag. Dont worry, I will write in detail in future.

The speed of day-and-night is 35 kmph in dayshift, like riding a 100 cc motorbike, and in nightshifts....ha ha ha.....it flys by in an F1, I mean you wont have a real control over days and nights.

I mean...what I mean to say is, Andy, the protagonist, and me were in the same mindset, almost, and I was just jumping up and down seeing the last 30 minutes of the movie. What a movie !!!!!! WHAT A MOVIE !!!!! fantastic....

now thats it...signing off...bye bye

Scribble #3

As I said in my last post, I finished "A Thousand Splendid Suns." Its good. It has all the ingredients, but the taste, of its predecessor - "The Kite Runner." Kite Runner was even more riveting. In addition, I happened to read "The White Tiger" by Aravind Adiga and also "Train to Pakistan" by Khushwant Singh.

White Tiger was fantastic. Train to Pakistan was written originally in 1956 it seems. I got hold of a hardback republished in 2006. Maybe it might have felt good if one had read it four decades before, but not now of course.

Actually, how I got interested in this novel, "Train to Pakistan," is a nice big story. I saw this movie, 1947 Earth, starring Amir Khan and Nandita Das, released in late 1990's; the movie was fantastic. Then somewhere I learnt that it was fully based on another novel named "Cracking India" AKA "Ice Candy Man" which was published in 1991, and also learnt that there was another similar novel based on Partition of India, named "a boring Train to Pakistan" or "Train to Pakistan."

I browsed for both of them in the Old Books Market in my city, but came home only doing the stupid hasty thing of buying a hardback edition of TTP spending 295 rupees.

OKAY.....did anything interesting happen in the last 30 days...?????? err........NO.

BYE BYE.....meet you soon....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scribble #2

It has been almost 15 days since I started this blog. I was absolutely busy and didnt have enough time to sit and think relaxed for something to write about....I mean, even *now* I dont have anything tooooo interesting to write, but let me scribble something so that they dont delete this blog off...okay ??????

Errrrr......On the first of this month, I opened this book, which I had borrowed from my office library, "The Kite Runner." Boy-o-boy....awesome book, really good. Generally, I am a slow reader, but this book was so riveting that I finished 200 out of 324 pages in one sitting. To me, before reading this book, Afganistan was just deserts, guns, terrorists, allied forces, oil wells, Michael Moore, CNN-IBN, turbans, burkas, and if anything positive, as a place where Moghul Empire originated. Going by this book, I reckon Afganistan is *as rich as* India in culture and I would love to know more about it now; after all we were one nation decades back. Hats off to Khaled Hosseini. I have started his next book "A Thousand Splendid Suns;" hope I get enough time to finish it soon.

Hello everbody,
I am Arun....Arun Kumar...(hey hey...what r u ??? James Bond ??? come to the point man). Yeah...Yeah...coming to the point....I am hearing about these blogs and people like Meenakshi Reddy Madhavan getting famous through blogs and a lot of my friends writing blogs and all, for a long time now. Some time ago, I came across a girl called Priya who has this blog "Poems, Prayers, and Promises" and I mailed to her and she replied me and we happened to chat today and she asked me whether I have a blog???? That was when I started wondering...... "is there anything that I can write ??" (you have nothing). I am used to internet for a long time now, since 2000, to the point that I cannot live without it anymore, to the point of bunking my office and sitting in front of an Internet Explorer sometimes; but I have never thought of writing a blog until recently... (I said COME TO THE POINT.....) ..Yes yes coming to the point....My life is an absolute run-of-the-mill one....filled with Computer, Television, Books, riding bike, and....oh my god..thats all...!!!!! (you have a girlfriend ???)....I dont even have a friend who is a girl. It is not that something is dramatically wrong with me, but I dont have access to a lot of girls now....I didnt realize when I was in school or college that this process of gaining a girlfriend is as tuff as this and missed a lot of opportunities to have a GF....but now, now I am slapping my forehead daily for that mistake.....but lets put that aside....Considering all the other crisis going on in the world right now, a 25-year-old not having a girlfriend is not a problem at all. Ok.....now....errrrrrr.....what was I talking about ?? (were talking about your bloody excuses for blogging !!!) . My usual routine goes like this....home-office-home-TV/internet/books-alone in bed, then again home-office-home-TV/internet/books-alone in bed, and again- (stop it, stop it...you are not leading a life dude, you are running a bloody marathon....and you want to write about this shit here ???)...Yes...why not ?? I will wr- (you booze ???) No...I dont booze nor smoke...(LOL.....this guy does not smoke.....LOL...icing on the cake!!....go ahead) There is nothing special in my ADLs, but I am going to write about everything, movies, books, happenings in the world, celebs, technical stuffs, softwares, sports, people around me, everything from a third-party point of view. (you write, but do you think anyone will read ??? LOL) . I am also going to write about the girls I meet, the moves I make, and the progresses that happen with absolute honesty (aaahhhhh.....at last....so you are not a saint !!!!). E-mails and comments are always welcome from my fans. (FANS ???....my ass).
